IRIS
e–Infrastructure for Research and Innovation at STFC (IRIS) is a cooperative community–driven programme, to develop and grow the digital research infrastructure that enables STFC to play a leading role in world–class science. It provides the digital infrastructure to enable UKRI to remain at the forefront of global projects, such as the Square Kilometre Array and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment.
The IRIS programme helps to develop the skills needed to address tomorrow’s challenges and supports STFC’s activity by:
- Supporting the development of software tools and services that support the federation of STFC’s Federated Digital Research infrastructure (DRI)
- Providing access to compute and storage capacity at STFC’s partner sites within the UK to create, store, process and analyse data from science facilities, projects and activities
- Supporting the sharing and exchange of knowledge and ideas
- Developing communities and encouraging knowledge sharing and idea exchanges
- Providing a range of federated services, including:
- Identity and access management
- Federated accounting
- Operational security
- Trust relationship and policies
“IRIS provides opportunities for research communities to share expertise through a sustainable e-infrastructure that enables them to play a leading role in global projects. The programme not only encourages collaboration and trust between researchers, but also invests in the hardware and software required to support their science worldwide.
